Permatex Gear Oil RTV Gasket Maker is specially formulated to withstand the harsh gear oil environment found in differentials and transfer cases. Gear oil has friction modifiers that break down normal RTV and cause leaking, but this specialty silicone has been tested to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications to ensure complete sealing power. As a gasket maker it seeks and seals leak paths that cut gaskets cannot. Suggested Applications: Differentials and transfer cases.

I used this for sealing a transfercase. This is silver inside, not green (I was hoping for some color since Iโm weird) super thick and hard to squeeze out. Almost impossible. I followed directions and let it semi set over night before torquing down.. still leaked and Iโm not sure how as I took 4 days to make sure it went right. Did not dry in 24hrs in a cold shop. All in all it did itโs purpose in the end and is holding up now leak free.

Use for differential covers. This green version is for gear oil. Never had a leak using this. Follow instructions for proper sealing.

This product has certainly done what I needed it to do–sealing a rear differential. It is quick thick and dense, as you would expect, so its a bit hard to squeeze it out of the tube. Just be sure to cut the tip far enough down and you won’t have a problem. Good stuff!

When sealing differentials this is the only way to go. Iโve tried ultra black, International Gray, RightStuff, etc. When youโre working with gear oil, this permatex it the best way to go. Itโs extremely thick, and stiff. When applied to a properly cleaned and prepped surface you wonโt have any issues with leaks. I work on cars and trucks professionally, and I use/recommend this RTV regularly.
