   Its hydraulic fluidIf you can get away with ATF, it would be cheaper but we run aircraft grade so this fits the bill.

   Everyone, inclluding myself, complains about the price of this steering fluid and numerous alternatives have been suggested. For me, i decided to spring for the product that would protect my boats hydraulic steering components rather than gamble on trying a product that someone says oh it works but with no real scientific evidence of it working to protect hydraulic components. My boat in in salt water and of course salt destroys everything so using a product specifically engineered to work and protect components is critical in my mind. Do yourself a favor, spend the money on this fluid rather than a new pump or steering cylinders later on.

   Recently rebuilt helm and put new seals on cylinder. Works perfect.
