My 2003 Honda Odyssey van with 184k miles has been shuddering when changing gears for a year now, and I have been hearing fast grinding sounds as well. The other biggest βduhβ indicator which I ignored was the βmaintenance neededβ light…I figured it was just the oil lol. Anyway, I was dumb and ignored the signs and noticed the shuddering got worse this last weekend on the freeway so I decided to buy this Honda-spec transmission lube and change it out myself. The owners manual said to use Honda ATF-Z1, with Dextron III as an alternative). A little research shows that this is the direct replacement to ATF-Z1 so I bought 4 quarts. It was super easy as the transmission is under the drivers side and close to the front, and the drain has a 3/4β drive plug (just use your 3/4β ratchet without anything on it).Remember that the drain plug has a magnet built into it to collect metal debris/shards so wipe that clean before you insert back in.I then used a turkey baster as a funnel (detached the rubber-squeezer-part and inserted it into the Transmission fluid dipstick hole) along with another long neck funnel to cleanly fill the transmission back up.Turned on the van and shifted through every available shift position, and then took it for a drive. Went up to 45-50mph and everything in between – it runs so smoothly now! No shuddering or bad indications, also the βmaintenanceβ light is off lol!Iβm so sorry I ignored you, van!Everything is running great so far, Iβll update this review if anything changes, which would indicate that not even great transmission fluid like this can save an old transmission on a 2003 Honda Odyssey. But it so far so good! Runs like new again, I could almost cry πUpdate 3/28/21: Drove around 300 miles last week and had no issues with the transmission performance, still feels like new! Today I completed the 2nd fluid change with this same brand transmission fluid, with 2 more to go to fully drive out all the old fluid – the fluid came out all black as expected, but did look a little bit redder than the first change :)Update 4/20/21: completed the 3rd fluid change for the transmission. Has been running about 5-700 miles since the last change and has still had no issues with this fluid. Will complete another fluid change in about 3 weeks and will update again!Update: 7/9/21: Completed the 4th fluid change! I gave it a much longer time in between this time since it has been running so well. I strongly recommend using this transmission fluid for your old Honda if the owners manual specifies it. It has made the shaky and struggling transmission run LIKE-NEW, no joke. The van is now at 187k miles and going strong againβ¦all except the ol chipping paint issue π lol. Anyway, Iβm not sure I need to do another fluid change until maybe next year, and once a year after that. Iβll update this review by end of year if everything continues to run well or notUpdate 5/1/2022: Van is still running great and shifting like a champ. Today I pumped out 2 quarts of the old transmission fluid with a multi-purpose transfer pump via dipstick hole and added in 2 new quarts of the Honda fluid. I meant to drain/fill the whole amount again but I think Iβll do that in a couple of months instead. I love this stuff

My wifeβs 13 crv had a vibration going into 3rd gear, started a transmission drain and fill procedure at every oil change. The vibration was better after the first drain and fill. Iβve done three now and the gears shift fine. I have one more to do for a total of 4 drain+fill. I get almost 3 quarts out each time. After this last fill, i will monitor the fluid level and transmission performance, and probably start a once a year fluid swap. She puts a lot of miles on her car(mail route).

It will get where its shifting different then normal and draining and adding back 2.5 Quarts about every 2nd oil change and it seems to help. Its actually easier to do then an oil change.I also add a 1/4 bottle of Lucas Transmission fix which also seems to help

I’ve used Valvoline Maxlife for my 2015 Honda Accord V6, and it’s been giving me a hard time when in third gear or going uphill when under acceleration. After changing the fluid with this “genuine” fluid, the transmission totally transformed. I’ll be doing another fluid change to help flush out the Valvoline.
