I like to refurbish old test gear– a Heathkit oscilloscope, a Simpson 260 voltmeter, etc. A common problem is intermittent connections from dirt and tarnish on the switch contacts. A lot of problems go away when potentiometers, connectors and switches are cleaned up and tarnish-free.I use a variety of different cleaners– isopropyl alcohol, inexpensive aerosol contact cleaner, or even something like Brasso on heavily tarnished brass or copper contacts. When I’m done cleaning, I add a drop of D100 to add lubricity and keep the contacts from tarnishing again. There is a great deal of debate regarding which cleaner, if any, to use on which contacts. In my case, by the time I get my hands on a piece of old test gear, I’m usually trying to undo years of neglect or outright abuse. I usually have very little to lose by adding a drop of D100.The only thing I definitely won’t use it on is some of the low tension gold-leaf contacts in some older Tektronix oscilloscopes. Tek specifically says to use nothing but isopropyl alcohol on these, so that’s what I’ll do when I finally get around to restoring the 7000-series mainframe scope that is patiently waiting its turn. Everything else, including the bazillion socketed transistors inside that scope, will get a drop of D100.Yes, Deoxit is expensive, but a little goes a long way. I buy the needle applicator bottle because it’s 100% contact cleaner with no propellant. I find the needle applicator wastes less (no overspray) and makes it easier to apply just a small drop where needed. The bottle I bought a couple of years ago is still 80% full, and I’ve used it a fair amount.I still keep some cheap aerosol contact cleaner (my go to is the WD40 aerosol from Home Depot) around for doing the bulk of the initial cleaning, but the final step is almost always to add a drop of D100.

I’ve been using this stuff since the late 1800s in audio pots and switches. Audio guys have commented forever how this stuff lubes and quiets audio slider pots. My findings have always been equally as positive.I put a drop on the pots on my flight sim joystick. They are typically 10k, 90 deg ROM composition pots, doing the typical 5v thing to an A/D converter. They are often miniature pots, smaller traces, likely more prone to dirt/dust/bug poo. As expected, the drop of red stuff smoothed out the response very dramatically. What was a quarter to half volt spike with every movement of the pot became measurably zero spike. Smooth as a baby pot’s bottom. As smooth as any Hall Effect sensor curve. Here’s the “new” use -I put a drop on the joystick’s mechanical cams. That’s typically a machined and/or chrome surfaced cam and ride bearing affair with or without a center detent. I don’t want oil or grease on these, they live in a desk mount joystick or in a set of flight pedals, constantly on the floor, being activated by the bottoms of the pilot’s shoes. I simply cleaned the factory supplied lithium/moly/bear fat grease off the cams and allowed one drop of DeOx to flow onto the cam bearing surface. The carrier disappears via magic pixies and apparently leaves the “Business End” part of the product on the metal surface. No dust collecting like with grease. The seemingly high price of the little bottle is not a factor. Man cave engineers will likely get 10+ years out of one of these bottles. You’re likely to change hobbies or die before you use up two bottles.

Used it on my corroded sonar/GPS plug socket. Worked like a charm. Used on my battery cable lugs with a small wire brush, came out like new. Everywhere I tried it, I was happy with the results. Don’t be put off by the price. Buy a needle applicator bottle and keep it handy. Use sparingly, it goes a long way.

I’ve used deoxit in a spray can for years. It has always seemed to live up to the claim. The can however, wasted a lot of product. This bottle with the needle applicator works so much better, (in most situations). Not crazy about the cost, but now I don’t spray it everywhere.

I used this on my old Mesa Boogie amp and also on my old Marshall plexi amp. Instantly cleans off corrosion and crap off sodered parts. Also makes old pots work like new. If you have static or loud pots, this should make them work as they are supposed to. Works great on electric guitar pots too.

Great for electrical connections. Keeps corrosion to a minimum. Applicator is nice. One drop does most situations.

It’s been more than a decade that I can rely with this product. It is the best contact cleaner, and it also protects the contacts. It is not too cheap, the quality and pricing go side by side. Recommended for those who work with electric and electronic contacts.
